With great fervor and faith, the Church in Bangladesh marked the death anniversary of Servant of God Archbishop Theotonius Amal Ganguly.
This year, the commemorations began the day prior, 1 September, with a well-attended celebration at St. Paul’s Church in Hasnabad, the birthplace of Archbishop Ganguly. The program began with Mass, at which Most Rev. Bejoy N. D’Cruze, OMI, Archbishop of Dhaka, presided. Among the concelebrants was Fr. George K. Rozario, C.S.C., Superior of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Province in Bangladesh.
Following Mass, the community held a candlelight prayer service and offered floral tributes near a memorial dedicated to the archbishop. Local parishioners, youth groups, and students actively participated, sharing heartfelt reflections and songs inspired by the life of Servant of God. The event concluded with a special prayer for his cause for beatification.

Then, on the actual anniversary, 2 September, the principal celebration was held at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Ramna, in Dhaka, where Servant of God Ganguly is buried.
As part of a commemorative program, a brief documentary on the life of Archbishop Ganguly was screened, and copies of Dibaloker Ujjal Nakktra Archbishop Ganguly, a book based on his life and works by Fr. Adam S. Pereira, C.S.C., were distributed to attendees.
Once again, the principal celebrant at the Mass was Archbishop D’Cruze. He was accompanied by His Eminence Patrick Cardinal D’Rozario, C.S.C., Archbishop Emeritus of Dhaka, and many bishops, priests, religious, and lay faithful from across the country. The Most Rev. Theotonius Gomes, C.S.C., Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of Dhaka, preached the homily, reflecting on the life of holiness, humility, and service that marked Archbishop Ganguly’s life. Fr. Rozario also offered some remarks encouraging the support of the Servant of God’s cause.

Following the Mass, the clergy, religious, and lay faithful processed to the grave of the Servant of God, where they prayed a special prayer for his canonization.
Work continues actively on Servant of God Ganguly’s cause, and the Congregation of Holy Cross invites all to join in praying for its advancement. Archbishop Ganguly would be the first from the Church in Bangladesh to be declared venerable.
