In Canada, a joint committee of sisters, brothers, and priests of the Holy Cross family has already been working to plan and organize events for the 150th Anniversary of Fr. Basile Moreau’s death, which is January 20, 2023. Since April 2022, they have been hosting a monthly conference via Zoom on the 20th of each month to explore the life and legacy of the blessed founder of the Holy Cross Family.
These conferences will culminate in a grand celebration of Basile Moreau’s Anniversary of Death on January 20, 2023, at Saint Joseph’s Oratory and presided by Bishop André Richard, C.S.C.
The presenters have included a diverse list of sisters, brothers, and priests. While the conferences have been given in French, there has been simultaneous translation offered in Spanish and English.
The remaining themes in the series are:
- October 20: “The pastor” by Fr. Rudolph Arty, C.S.C.
- November 20: “The man of Urgency” by Sr. Micheline Tremblay, C.S.C.
- December 20: “The man of fire, zeal, audacity, courage” by Fr. Jomon Kalladanthiyil, C.S.C.
To mark the Sesquicentennial Anniversary of Moreau’s entrance into eternity, the 2022 General Chapter of the Congregation of Holy Cross decreed a “celebration to honor our founder, Blessed Basile Moreau, beginning on January 20, 2023, and ending on June 7, 2024, the Feast of the Sacred Heart.”
This celebration was one of the topics of the General Council’s first meeting in September, and it will also be a topic of the joint meeting of the four General Councils of the Holy Cross Family in October. More information will be posted on the Congregation's website in the coming months.
