The annual meeting of the Presidents and Board Chairs of the 11 Holy Cross-sponsored schools in the Moreau Province in the United States occurred in October in San Antonio and Austin, Texas. The gathering opened with an evening reception and a Texan BBQ dinner at the Br. John Baptist Province Center in Austin hosted by Br. Thomas Dziekan, C.S.C., Superior of the Moreau Province.
In attendance to welcome the visiting school leaders were Br. Richard Critz, C.S.C., Assistant Provincial; Br. George Schmitz, C.S.C., Provincial Councilor; Br. Stephen LaMendola, C.S.C., Provincial Councilor; Br. Michael Winslow, C.S.C., Provincial Councilor; Br. Richard Daly, C.S.C., Province Justice and Peace Coordinator; Br. William Nick, C.S.C., Director of Brother Vincent Pieau Residence; and Mr. Terry Lee, Director of School Sponsorship.
The second day of the meeting took place at Holy Cross of San Antonio, a co-ed grade 6-12 school founded by the Congregation of Holy Cross in 1957. Dr. Rene Escobedo, Principal, and Mr. Carlos Collazo, Board Chair, along with the school’s marching band welcomed the school leaders. A tour of the school campus and a beautiful prayer service at their shrine to St. André Bessette completed the morning. The afternoon of productive discussions and sharing among the attendees was capped off by a festive evening at a local Mexican restaurant.
The final day of the meeting was at San Juan Diego Catholic High School in Austin. It started with breakfast and a tour by Dr. Pam Jupe, President, and Mr. Blake Evans, Principal, followed by lunch and an informative presentation by the Holy Cross Institute at St. Edwards University.
“This meeting is a tradition inspired and framed by the paradigm of information-formation transformation,” said Mr. Lee.“Much relevant information is shared, and formative experiences are mixed throughout, with the expectation that a more profound transformation will occur after the meetings end.”
