New Postulators for Holy Cross Causes of Saints

Dr. Andrea Ambrosi, Postulator for our Holy Cross causes of saints

After serving 50 years as an attorney and Postulator of the Congregation of the Causes of Saints, Dr. Andrea Ambrosi, Postulator for the Congregation of Holy Cross's causes of saints since 2002, announced his impending retirement, which will take place later this year. His daughter, Dr. Angelica Ambrosi, will succeed him.

In addition to his work with Holy Cross, including on St. Andre Bessette, Dr. Ambrosi has worked with causes in over 35 countries, most notably the causes of St. John XXIII, St. Mother Theodore Guerin, St. John Henry Newman, Blessed Marie-Léonie Paradis, Blessed Michael McGivney, Venerable Mary Ward, and Venerable Archbishop Fulton Sheen. The competence of Archbishop Sheen’s causes is with the Most Rev. Daniel Jenky, C.S.C., Bishop of Peoria, Illinois.

Dr. Angelica Ambrosi, has 17 years of experience in the field. Her degrees and titles include a diploma in Utroque Iure from the Pontifical Lateran University, Rome, Procurator before the Tribunal of the Roman Rota, and Postulator before the Congregation of the Causes of Saints. She was instrumental in authoring the positio for Blessed Basile Moreau and Venerable Patrick Peyton, so she is familiar with the Congregation of Holy Cross.

On February 10, Br. Paul Bednarczyk, C.S.C., Vice-Postulator, met with Dr. Andrea Ambrosi, Dr. Angelica Ambrosi, and Nina Bartaluca, administrative assistant, to review the transition of authority. Dr. Andrea Ambrosi will continue to oversee the cause of Servant of God, Br. Flavian Laplante, C.S.C., until its diocesan phase is closed and the cause is transferred to Rome. It is expected this should take place sometime this year. 

Fr. David Marcham, a priest of the Archdiocese of Boston, serves as the Vice-Postulator for Father Peyton, whose cause falls under the auspices of Holy Cross Family Ministries.

Ms. Valentina Culurgioni, an associate in Dr. Ambrosi’s office, will become the Postulator for the cause of Servant of God, Archbishop Theotonius Ganguly, C.S.C. Ms. Culurgioni received a Diploma (Summa cum Laude probabta) from the Studium of of the Congregation for the Saints and currently is a doctoral candidate at the Pontifical Oriental Institute. She is in the process of writing the positio for Archbishop Ganguly, C.S.C.

Br. Paul Bednarczyk, C.S.C., meets regularly with Dr. Ambrosi and his associates and will continue to work closely with the new Postulators in the future. The Postulators and Br. Paul Bednarczyk, C.S.C., emphasize the importance of cultivating a devotion to the virtuous men of Holy Cross and praying for their intercession.
