New Priest Ordained in Bangladesh

Fr. Joy Franco Biswas, C.S.C., Ordination in Bangladesh

Fr. Joy Franco Biswas, C.S.C. was ordained a priest for the Congregation of Holy Cross on February 2, 2024, by the Most Rev. James Romen Boiragi, DD, Bishop of the Diocese of Khulna. The Mass was held at Our Lady of Rosary Church in Jashore, Khulna. The day prior to his Ordination a blessing (Mongolanustan) program was held, with many religious were present in addition to Fr. Joy’s family.

A member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Province in Bangladesh, Fr. Joy completed his initial formation in Canada at the Montreal Major Seminary and the University of Laval in Quebec. It was in Canada that Fr. Joy professed Final Vows on June 4, 2022, and was ordained a deacon on May 28, 2023. He went back to Bangladesh to celebrate his Ordination with his family, friends, and home province.

Following the Ordination Mass there was a festive reception at which the bishop and Fr. George Kamal Rozario, C.S.C., Superior of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Province, offered words of gratitude and exhortation. Fr. Joy offered his Mass of Thanksgiving the next day, February 3, at Our Lady of Rosary Church in his hometown of Shimulia.

Fr. Joy has returned to Canada where he will continue his priestly ministry as part of the Canadian Province.
