Br. Paul Bednarczyk receives Doctorate from Stonehill College

The alma mater of Br. Paul Bednarczyk, C.S.C., bestowed the honorary degree on him at its 73rd Commencement. On Sunday, May 19, Br. Paul Bednarczyk, C.S.C., Superior General, received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters Degree from his alma mater, Stonehill College, in North Easton, Massachusetts, at the institution’s 73rd Commencement. In the same ceremony, 583 undergraduate and 42 graduate students received their diplomas.

Before Fr. John Denning, C.S.C., President of Stonehill College, gave Br. Bednarczyk his honorary doctorate, Professor Daniel Ullucci of the Religious Studies and Theology Department read the citation, which highlighted Br. Bednarczyk’s historic election as the first religious brother to serve as Superior General of the Congregation of Holy Cross.

The citation went on to say: “As an educator in the faith, you remain committed to upholding the traditions established by Blessed Basil Moreau, the Congregation’s founder. You continuously approach your work with zeal and compassion. ... In your efforts to bring light and hope to this world, you have led collaboratively while working with Holy Cross religious at parishes, educational apostolates, and social ministries worldwide.”

The citation concluded: “For your many contributions to the Holy Cross mission, you are revered by your confrères in the Congregation and the Stonehill College community. For the passion you have demonstrated as you have sought to make God known, loved, and served, Stonehill College is proud to bestow upon you, Br. Paul Bednarczyk, honoris causa, the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters.”
